The Future In 1989 was founded in 2010 by producers Benjamin Carpenter and Skyler Champion. Introduced by mutual friends in 2005, Carpenter and Champion went on to produce and compose music for film television including songs for Bravo, MTV, OWN and Sundance Film Festival Official Selection, Crime After Crime.
After years of sample-based production, record collecting, remixes and a rabid love of heavy synthesizers, The Future In 1989 was born. Early performances in Los Angeles and Paris pushed original remixes of La Roux, NIN, Goldfrapp, Robyn, Parliament Funkadelic, Radiohead, Stevie Wonder and Queens of the Stone Age.
In October of 2012, they added singer/songwriter Jaymee Carpenter to their lineup as a lead vocalist. Carpenter, the older brother of TFI89 producer Ben Carpenter, had previously produced and performed in bands signed to such labels as Sub Pop, Nettwerk and Earache Records.
