Alexa Wiley is expanding her musical landscape. Her current project, Alexa Wiley and the Wilderness, highlights Wiley’s evocative vocals and poetic songs. Paired with the Wilderness’ virtuosity, the ensemble creates a superb sonic lyricism that might be described as wild metaphorical music that rocks.
Well received at McMenamins’ venues and local pubs throughout Oregon, Wiley’s band is gaining musical momentum by winning new admirers and delighting existing fans. Wiley has shared her irrepressible musical wisdom opening for and played with a diverse range of fellow musicians, from legendary American folk icon Michael Hurley to brilliant Oregon artists such as Lincoln Crockett and the talented Portland’s all-female rock revue Vulva Underground.
The Wilderness is comprised of the always adventurous rhythm section of Sean Oldham (Richmond Fountaine) on drums and Dale Turnbull (Loose Change) on bass; the searing vibrancy of master guitarist Bret Malmquist (Jesus Presley), and the crowd pleasing multi-instrumentalist Steve Dearborn (The Outdoorsmen) on banjo, flute, penny whistle, mandolin, guitar, and more.
