Light of the Loon is an Indie Bizarro-Anti-Folk Rock band with macabre undertones. The band is based in Akron, Ohio.
Light of the Loon started as a two-woman sister band (Sharon and Amy) emphasizing vocal harmonies and striking lyrics. It expanded into a full five-piece band during 2012 and 2013 when their drummer (Alisha), flautist (Dani), and violinist (Raquel) joined the group.
Light of the Loon’s influences come from classical, blues, hip-hop, folk, and heavy metal. The eclectic sound this band creates has been variously compared to that of Jefferson Airplane, Fiona Apple, Jeff Buckley, The Roches, Murder by Death, and The Ditty Bops. With lyrics ranging from the whimsical to the solemn, Light of the Loon’s songs emphasize the element of storytelling and its sound moves both the heart and the body. Some highlights of group’s career include involvement with the Akron Film+Pixel's second annual Collective Soundtrack, participation in the Akron community festivals such as The 2012 Light Up Akron Lantern Festival, 2013 Akron Square Fest and 2013 Porch Rokr. Light of the Loon has associated with The Baker's Basement, a band based in Cleveland, Ohio and in summer of 2013 it began recording in The Baker's Basement's studio, the Imaginorium, in Parma Heights, Ohio.
Light of the Loon will release their official demo at the end of this year and it plans to complete its first album by the end of 2014.
