The glittering silver granite of the buildings in Aberdeen, Scotland provide the backdrop for this new band who aim to rock the hearts of every audience they play to and who are driven by the desire to play their music to anybody who will take a moment to listen.
The brainchild of frontman Paul Whalley, he set out to form a band to showcase his love for guitars, catchy melodies and anthem-style choruses. He needed a platform to write and perform for an audience he knew existed, for the songs that he had playing in his head. Having been influenced by bands and performers such Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Queen, Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, U2 and Scottish favourites Biffy Clyro as he was growing up, Paul set about advertising locally for like-minded musicians to join him and within a few months Kumar Thapa (Drums) and Mike Lee (Bass) joined the line up and together they became Cyrus Rose. The trio come from different parts of the world and have varied backgrounds and experiences which is identifiable in the music and sounds that they produce together. Cyrus Rose perform their songs with heart, drive and passion, painting pictures that connect with the experiences, hopes and dreams of the audience. They write big choruses that would feel at home both stripped down around a campfire or being sung out by a crowd in a stadium. The latter being a dream for the band that hopefully will one day come true.
The band are now ready to take their efforts to a new level and out to a wider audience to show the global public just who Cyrus Rose are and why you should take notice of what they are doing. New logos have been designed, merchandise printed, social network pages rewritten and websites are being launched, all signalling the bands desire and intent to start reaching out to the music lovers of the world who yet have no idea who they are. That will soon change.
The band released their debut self-titled EP in April 2012 and have been gigging and promoting their music across Scotland over the last year, recently headlining shows in Aberdeen. The band promoted the EP release with a local tour and promotional appearances on SHMU FM and Mearns FM. In January 2013 the band were voted Best Band by listeners of SHMU FM, an accolade which the band took great pride in accepting. The band are playing at the Edinburgh Guitar & Music Festival 2013.
In December 2012, the band commenced recording of their first full length album, due for release in early 2013. Working with Nick Scholey, producer of bands such as Yashin and Lower than Atlantis, the forthcoming album will be titled 'Granite and Light' and will feature 11 songs showcasing the full array of passion, emotion and experience that Cyrus Rose try to bring to every one of their live shows. There will be rock, there will be ballads, there will be anger and there will be happiness…. It will be everything that Cyrus Rose can be.
The band are active on all the major social networks, across borders, and they are always looking for new opportunities to play their music and interact with new audiences. They are ambitious, hard-working and focused on sharing their music with the world and hopefully they will be playing at a venue or festival near you very soon.
