Andrew Luttrell is a singer/songwriter and rock/folk/bluegrass/jam-band multi-instrumentalist who has been performing throughout the Baltimore/tri-state area and beyond for well over 15 years. His large catalog of original songs is incorporated into all the electric-rock and acoustic bands/configurations he steers with creative raw energy & expressive improvisation, including the "Andrew Luttrell Band", "Luttrell-Grimm Acoustic", “The Coal Mountain Ramblers”, "Luttrell-Noon-Wenger", “EchoSeven”, and more. In respect to his live performances with his many bands and his wide variety of obscure cover material, Andrew was coined “A great interpreter of cover song storytelling” in a 2005 musician review by Ryan Kearns of Premier Records in San Francisco. Coal Mt Ramblers co-founder & band-mate Mark Calhoun describes in that regard: “At times it seems that Andy’s mind is a computer that can instantly recall a myriad of long-forgotten songs and make them sound as if they were rehearsed for weeks before being played, out of nowhere in a complete seat-of-the-pants style, in front of a live audience.” He is consistently complemented by listeners and music fans after every show, and highly recognized for delivering a top quality concert experience every time - as if each person in attendance was just knocked over by a gentle but intensely soulful wrecking ball. A talented electric & acoustic guitar, mandolin, and piano player – Andrew has over seven album releases under his belt through the independent record label “Echoeseven Music LTD” over the past five years, including several studio albums loaded with his original material.
In reference to his song “Jamie Moore” from the 2006 studio album “Scorched Sentiments”, John Lewis in the November issue of Baltimore Magazine writes: “Jamie Moore, with its offbeat narrative and plaintive vocals, can hold its own against any contemporary folk tune.” In addition, his song “Ann Marie” (also from that album) won honorable mention in the 2007 International Songwriting Competition. In June 2007, Andrew was also awarded first prize and winner of the Emergenza Festival’s Baltimore “Acoustic Hero” Competition and he proceeded to the regional finals.
Another studio album released in 2009 “Luttrell, Noon & Wenger: Loco Motion Comin” contained many of his original songs which increased in popularity around live rotation, including “Creeping Back to Life”, “Today”, “Send Me Down The River” and more. That same year, Andrew also recorded a full-length album with one of his bands “The Coal Mountain Ramblers” at The Peabody Conservatory recording studio in Baltimore. In addition to being a full time songwriter & musician, he deeply envelops himself in recording & production like no other musician around – painstakingly documenting and archiving digital recordings of practically all of his live concert endeavors across the board of his bands. Almost every concert he has performed in over the past six years alone was recorded and is available on the bootleg trading/downloading circuit. His creative approach to interesting and unique set lists lend themselves to that popularity beyond just typical ‘jam-band’ fans. He is also the primary art designer for all of his album releases as well as visual artist for many of them. On top of all that, he makes time to sit-in with other musicians (for free, mind you) as a multi-instrumentalist and backing vocalist on the side, simply because he likes & deeply appreciates their music or creations respectively. Over the years regarding his many bands and projects, Andrew Luttrell has been described by the Baltimore songwriter circuit as one of the hardest working musicians in town.
In 2011, Andrew began writing and composing all the songs that would end up on his latest studio album. This included writing the arrangements of each song, each part, each instrument, what-where-when everything was played by each band member, and the sequencing of the tracks. He also produced the concept album and designed all the artwork for the lyric book. Recorded & Engineered in 6 months by Christopher Freeland, the new Andrew Luttrell Band studio album PAINT BY NUMBER$ was released March 1, 2012. The album received several excellent reviews in music magazines and music review blogs, and several songs received regular airplay on US and international radio stations. PAINT BY NUMBER$ was a success. It was a diverse musical ride with narrative themes focusing on the arts, creative survival, current social & political economic structures, and the recent occupy movement. Currently, Andrew still continues to write, record, perform live solo acoustic sets & songwriter showcases, perform from time to time, and work on art.
