Adventurous Rock and Roll. This is how the four young men of Animals and Shapes describe their sound. They all call Salisbury, Massachusetts home, and all study at the same college. Having mostly grown up together, it’s no surprise the music is so tight after only a year of playing as Animals and Shapes. Guitarist Matt Beevers and vocalist/ pianist Shawn Teal met in elementary school while Beevers and drummer Brandon Almas attended high school together. Bassist/vocalist James Paone joined the group through a work connection with Teal. Formed on a hazy November night in 2011, the band couldn’t help but rehearse relentlessly. Local show offers flooded in as early as two weeks into their formation. After a surprisingly successful first six
months, the boys began discussing album possibilities. As the summer came and refreshed New England, Chris Plante came to Animals and Shapes. Plante, of local favorite The Brew, expressed a serious interest in producing the debut with the band. As it turns out, the match was perfect. Wish Them Well dropped March 15
to a sold out crowd at downtown Newburyport’s most storied music club, The Grog. With early record release success, more live opportunities are arising and the future looks bright for these four young men of adventure.
