MAKO is the brainchild of Declan O’Shea and Christian Montagne, former members of the internationally acclaimed band Cyclefly.
MAKO retains the edgy alt-rock sound that gathered so many fans for Cyclefly, yet it has a mellow maturity reflecting pair’s growth as songwriters and as musicians. The kind of development and maturity that only comes from experience, raw talent and hard work. This can be heard on Mako's debut album ‘Living On Air’ (2010). Declan’s voice, often compared to David Bowie, Richard Butler, and Annie Lennox, permeates MAKO’s unforgettable lyrics evocatively and with his trademark charisma.
This has earned Mako recognition from The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences who placed Mako on the Official Ballot for the 2011 Grammy Awards, in the following categories: Best Album, Best Music Video, Best Rock Performance by a Duo, and Best Rock song for their last single, ‘Miss Alison’.
In November 2011 Mako were invited to play at the Brasil Celtic Festival in Salvador, Brazil. It was here MAKO had an impromptu collaboration with Raony of Brazilian rock band Medulla recording a new version of Mako's “Lost In Translation” with an accompanying video. Having gone down a storm 2012 saw MAKO back in Brazil for the second time, now co-headling with Medulla in a tour rocking seven cities and performing nine concerts.
Having returned from a successful tour in Brazil, MAKO are currently in studio mode writing their new album. 2013 will see the band back in Brazil and more touring around Europe.
