Looking up to musical influences such as UGK, Eight Ball, MJG and Ghetto Boys; Stepdaddy wrote his first rhyme called “Riches” at the age of 12. Stepdaddy, born Sherard James, hails from Midwest City, Oklahoma. Because of his grisly exterior, some initially find him intimidating but are stunned when they get to know him and quickly discover the two parts of this man.
Being raised by a single mother, Stepdaddy looked up to the drug dealers, pimps, and gangsters he saw in the streets. Trying to replicate the lifestyle depicted in gangster movies and videos, Stepdaddy began to live a wild lifestyle which led him into some troubles with the law. He soon realized that the life he was replicating was detrimental to his wellbeing.
In 2007, Stepdaddy began on a journey to make music his full time living. He and good friend, George Harrison Jr., founded Cirius Entertainment Group, LLC. It was then that Stepdaddy began recording songs for his debut album “Tales From the Darkside: The Battle Within”.
In 2008, Stepdaddy recorded ‘Bang On Em’, ‘Respect Me’, and ‘Who is That’. His single ‘Bang On Em’ was later featured on MTV Teen Cribs Czech Republic. Deciding he wanted to do some music with meaning, Stepdaddy teamed up with Michael Jackson’s former base player Michael McKinney and wrote ‘Black rein”. Featured on the single ‘Black Rein’ is Sacramento underground rapper T Nutty Nutt. The opening line, “Ever since that letter from Willie, we’ve been lynching each other”; ‘Black Rein’ has a deep subliminal message that he hopes reaches the ears and minds of the masses. Stepdaddy hopes through his music that he may obtain a substantial life for himself and be a positive influence for the young black men of tomorrow.
