A jazz drummer since he was sixteen, Xavier was born and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts, where the East Coast jazz scene shaped his musical tastes. He studied arranging and composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston. At the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, New York, he studied drumming with Jack DeJohnette, Bobby Moses, Stu Martin and Jumma Santos, and creative ensemble performance under the guidance of Karl Berger, Dave Holland, Kalaparusha, and John Ambercrombie.
“BOSCO” is the next release planned in support of Charles Xavier’s upcoming series of a live club dates being scheduled in the US during Fall/Winter 2012. New stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes soon to be available thru Happy Note Records on iTunes, Amazon, and others. In this release, Xavier performs his original compositions as a solo artist with accompaniment from his Digidesign Pro Tools system and also with special guest musicians. The music, influenced by such artists as Keith Jarrett, Fred Hersch, George Winston, AIR, Imogen Heap, Oregon, Gary Burton and other world music/new age artists is a departure from Xavier’s vocal driven funk/rock/alternative music releases in 2006/2007 and a return to his eclectic jazz roots.
Charlie has written and scored a new, original sound by daring to cross musical boundaries. You’ll feel the free-form artistry of jazz, the passion of classical, and the street heat of rap. You’ll hear the unexpected: thick, funky bass beats and the sweet tones of the vibraphone coupled with screaming horns and driving drum lines. As one reviewer, who gave it a rating of 8 out of 10, called Charlie a musical chef mixing ingredients in a CD bowl! Check out the Xman’s music clips to find out which one is your favorite!
