Hailing from the filthy streets of Pittsburgh, My Broken Chains is a four piece rock group aiming to reshape the genre boundaries of hard rock. The band was formed by long time friends Zack Bowman and Erik Shull in February of 2012 with mutual friends David Watkins of Binding Oath and Jonathon Merkt of Define Irony. The foursome played the Trinity Fine Arts Festival together to positive reception, before drummer Jonathon Merkt decided to leave and pursue his band Define Irony. With no hard feelings toward Merkt, who remains good friends with his former bandmates, MBC recruited former rythm-guitarist applicant Forrest Larson as their drummer.
Erik Shull is a seasoned guitarist of the Trinity Worship Band and also a varsity soccer player and field athlete. Known to those familiar with him as Freddy Flame, Erik is the backbone of My Broken Chains. Zack Bowman had been the guitarist and backup vocalist of Binding Oath since 2007, and also held brief stints with Scapegoat and Where Is Redemption. Primarily a vocalist for My Broken Chains, Zack stepped out of his comfort zone and for the first time laid down his guitar to embrace the role of lead vocalist. David Watkins, also a member of Binding Oath and previously a member of Scapegoat, is the talent of the band. Though he's played bass for fewer years than either guitarist, his instant skills landed him positions on the Trinity Worship Band, a Jazz Band, the Ignition Band, and various other musical projects. Forrest Larson had previously been a guitarist applicant for My Broken Chains and was frequently called up to practices to fill in for any missing member. When Jonathon Merkt decided to step down, the band had little hesitation in calling up Forrest to have him fill the position. Though not originally a drummer, Forrest's knack for picking up instruments allowed him to easuly slide into the role of drummer.
