In late 2011 Nick Franklin, Jack Boyd, and Gerald Burnett met for a few informal jams. After a new sound began to form, Nick asked Gary Hathaway, an old friend and previous bandmate, to join the band and theObvious was born. Since forming, theObvious have risen to the top of the Abilene music scene very quickly, winning their hometown Battle of the Bands in 2013, landing sponsorships from both Imperial Cymbals and 151 Vapes, releasing their debut album Something Different in October 2013, and sharing the stage with national acts such as Red, Disciple, Close Your Eyes, Sick Puppies, Redlight King, Adrenaline Mob, Straight Line Stitch, Full Devil Jacket, Afroman, Islander, Nothing More, Hurt, The Sword, Otherwise, Icon for Hire, and very soon Thousand Foot Krutch. theObvious' unique blend of metal, rock, funk, jazz, pop, and progressive influence shines through their music and is what makes this band so dynamic while still managing to keep things accessible and solid. The funky bass compliments the wild groove-centric drumming, which in turn compliments the versatile guitar styles ranging from sludgy and djenty to jazzy and ambient, and the diverse music created by this makes a stunning canvas for the haunting melodies and aggressive screams that the vocals paint across the aural spectrum. theObvious is definitely a one of a kind sound and experience.
