John Thynne - Like so many of us who were teenagers in the 60’s I began wanting to play rock-n-roll music after seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show and hearing the British Invasion bands on the radio. I was given a hand-me-down guitar and went to the music store and bought a Beatles song book and a guitar chord chart and set out to teach myself how to play.
In high school I was playing rhythm and lead guitar in garage bands with friends. I am still inspired by folk rock, surf and psychedelic songs of the 60’s, the post Woodstock era songs of the 70’s along with blues and soul music.
In 1980 a Peavey bass guitar sitting in the window of a pawn shop caught my eye, I figured why not give it a try. It didn't take long to fall in love with the bass. The guitars ended up in the closet and the bass became my number one instrument. The bass feels so powerful in my hands and the low end tones that roll off my finger tips makes me feel like I am in control of the thunder. Players like Jack Bruce of Cream, John Entwistle of the Who and Chris Squire of Yes are an inspiration to me. I have been playing the bass in the Phoenix area since 1991, in church, in cover bands and in original music bands.
I love playing in the US Marshall Band with it's large repertoire of songs. There’s a strong dose of classic rock with a little country, soul and blues mixed in. It’s great being a part of such an awesome band.
