Andrea LaRay is a small town girl born and raised in California, Missouri, population 4300. Watching her parents play and sing during her childhood, Andrea’s desire to be a musician was born. Growing up amidst country music, she finds musical inspiration in a range of artists - from Dolly Parton and Merle Haggard to the Dixie Chicks and Carrie Underwood. Around the age of eight, she received her first guitar, on which she taught herself to play. To escape the pain and anger of the divorce of her parents, Andrea turned to writing. By the time she was 14, she had successfully written her first song, “Someone To Hold.” At the age of 17, she performed in front of a live audience for the first time at the local county fair.
During high school, Andrea never felt she fit in. She knew “home” wasn’t where she was going to spend the rest of her life. She had planned to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia in hopes of succeeding in the medical field. This plan changed at the beginning of her senior year. After a powerful Sunday morning church service, she knew that God had other plans for her. In the weeks that followed, she discovered Belmont University located in the heart of Music City and instantly knew where she was being called. Nashville, Tennessee had always been a dream for her. When the opportunity to attend Belmont University to study Music Business arose, she took her chances, packed her belongings, and moved to Music City.
Since moving to Nashville, Andrea’s passion for music has only grown stronger. Stepping outside of her comfort zone, she began performing at local venues in Nashville. She especially enjoys taking part in writers’ rounds to share her lyrics. Andrea doesn’t dream of the lights, stage, fame, and fortune, only a chance to stand in front of a crowd and prove God’s love and the plans He has for His people. She hopes that through the music she brings, she will have the opportunity to brighten someone’s day, encourage them through a tough situation, or simply provide an escape from reality. Her hope is to help change the world, one song at a time. In the words of Andrea LaRay, “God. Faith. Country Music.”
