Life is a journey, and so is artistic expression. As a musician, Nell has performed and composed across a wide range of genres. Her current material is best described as pop/rock, with songs that are deliberately composed to sound as good in a solo acoustic performance as with a full-band studio production. Her second album, “The Pessimist”, was released in February 2012 and is available on itunes, Amazon, etc. She is currently hard at work writing material for her third solo album.
By the time she was 15 years old, Nell had lived in 11 cities in 8 different states. This lifestyle had instilled in her a passion for travel and culture. Art, including music, brings people together and spans cultural and geographical differences. Learning an artistic language, such as music, allows a form of personal expression that can’t be found with traditional means of communication.
Nell first started learning music with classical piano lessons beginning at age 9. In middle school she began composing simple songs on the piano and writing lyrics. While in high school, she taught herself to play guitar. Throughout the years, she has also performed in many different choirs. As a solo singer, she has a broad and powerful alto range and often receives compliments at live shows for her unique vocal style. A few band projects got started in high school and college but always fizzled out until pop/rock band Someone Decide starting performing in the greater Cleveland, OH area in 2008. Performing in the local music scene helped her to realize, that yes, this is what she really loved.
Since that time she has been performing in various cover acts as well as continuing to work on original material. Nell has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and for several years now has enjoyed working different part-time jobs while she continues to focus on being an artistic entrepreneur. In January 2014 she and her husband relocated to Hampton, VA.
