John Bakewell of Reelin n Rockin / Bio

A band with a lot of experience, the line-up is;

Front man & Lead vocals; (Mr Rock n Roll) Steve Turner.

Lead Guitar; Bob De-Banke.

Drums; Alex MacPhie.

Bass guitar; Nick Evans.

Rhythm guitar; John Bakewell.
Steve :- A singer for many years recently returned from Malta where he sang professionally as a solo act. Whilst the youngest in the band his music roots lie firmly in Rock n Roll (a big Shakin Stevens fan). He works the audience well and will have you singing along by the end of the evening. Steve also plays guitar during some of his performances.

Bob :- (ex Dynamite) is an excellent Lead guitarist, also provides backing vocals & the occasional solo. Bob’s versatility shows when he plays bass guitar whilst Nick is playing blues. Bob was a former member of "COAST to COAST" who had a hit with "Do the Huckle-Buck" in the early 70's, this is sometimes included in the bands set lists. Bob went on to be a formidable guitarist in "Johnny and the Jailbirds". Many years experience gives him the ability to provide those rifts that the audience will enjoy and admire. Bob went on to be the lead guitarist in Dynamite with John (rhythm).
Alex :- an excellent drummer with a history of experience, has just joine the band and details will added shortly.

Nick :- is a professional musician plays a lovely bass guitar, has also worked the fret-board on lead & is equally happy to play Bach on the cello, indicating Nick's wide taste of music styles, but as a once time player with "Freddy fingers lee" and “Screaming Lord Sutch” and the success of hits with Parlophone records, he suits well the style for Reelin N Rockin. He also plays a mean blues guitar style demonstrated at many of our gigs. His other accomplishments were with The Impressions in the 60's: Campbells Country 70's: System 80's and "The Wacky Backy Boogie band".
John :- (ex Dynamite) plays rhythm guitar & provides backing vocals with an occasional solo song. Starting out in an Irish style band many years ago, he had always wanted to be in a Rock n Roll band and formed first the Copy-Cats, then Dynamite taking them (which included Bob) to play at the Congress Palace in Evian, France. (See pics. below).

THE MUSIC:- is from the 50`s 60`s and some 70’s, covering mainly early Rock n Roll hits. Often Nick the bass player has a lead guitar and vocal spot whilst Bob shows his capability on bass. This gives rise to a different genre of music being played.
The band do not forget the many British artists such as Billy Fury, Marty Wild, Gerry Marsden, Johnny Kidd, Joe Brown, Cliff Richard, & many more. Also the Liverpool sound indulging the audience in the later 60’s, and Instrumental memories of such backing groups as Cliff's, "Shadows" are included . Obviously many American artists who dominated this era are included.

• GIG VENUES:- have include the many well-established rock n roll clubs around Great Britain with performances alongside such stars as Mike Berry and Craig Douglas.
• The band now play mainly, Pubs, Clubs, & Private parties.
