I've been pondering on this biography for a while now & have decided on this approach to our introduction.
This is me, I'm a seasoned musician & performer, I've travelled the world playing music; Europe, USA, Australia, & most recently China. I've stumbled upon experiences & characters through my music, that I would never have encountered otherwise.
I play support to some of Ireland's musical treasures, Aslan, The 4 of Us, Jack L, Sharon Shannon, Imelda May & I've played on some of Ireland's iconic stages, The Olympia Theatre, Vicar Street as well as bars, venues, GAA Clubs & Arts Centres all over Ireland; the stuff of my dreams.
2014 is fast becoming evolutionary for me in terms of my musical development; I find myself fascinated by the zany, daft & instantaneous world we find ourselves living in.
I'm writing new lyrics, melodies and beats and working towards a summer release & a summer camping tour.
So far this year I've had coffee with Jack L before opening his shows to rapturous applause, on his national tour. I'm booking solo gigs & I'm planning my next adventure in the great unknown.
So I'm going to share with you some of my favourite memories all of which have come about through my music;
In 2013 I travelled to China for 6 weeks of gigs, a truly amazing experience. I travelled to Beijing, Xi'an & Yantai. I met approx. 50 English speaking people on my trip so my audiences were mainly Chinese & they loved my music! I did a 2 page interview with The Yantai Daily newspaper, I was chased in Beijing airport by a guy who had my cd but wanted it signed and I got to meet some amazing people who have became fabulous friends.
I also travelled to Prague for a 5 night acoustic tour. Prague has become a second home for me. I first went to Prague 11 years ago & have returned each year since to take part in the St. Patrick's Day festivities in conjunction with the Czech Irish Business Association. I invited Aslan to join me & my 6 piece band in 2012. We played on a stage set up in the town centre to approx. five thousand people. I have acquired a solid fan base in Prague & look forward to travelling again this year.
In May/June 2012 I set out on my NYC adventure for 5 weeks of solo gigs the length & breath of Manhattan, Queens & The Bronx and what a blast I had. Not only did I happen upon some people I had met previously in Europe, I also gained huge support from natives & fellow Irishmen in NYC to whom I am very grateful.
My fondest memory from the Green Apple was I was playing the Path Café on Christopher Street, West Village, an older gentleman, who had to be assisted & placed in front of the piano got up before me to do some tunes. As he sat down I wondered what was about to happen to this old soul and then it happened. His fingers took off, fluttering up & down the ivory & black keys like snowflakes. It was just magical.
My trip to New York was amazing, I played the renowned Arlene's Grocery in the Lower East Side, The National Underground, The Cellar Sessions to name a few..
In advance of travelling I did a live radio interview on RadioIrish.com with Sean McCarthy. I filmed a piece called "Niteclub review" in Blackbirds, Queens which aired on the ABC Network.
I've travelled the west coast of Australia with my guitar playing singer/songwriter nights and while in Port Douglas I had the privilege of playing with an Aboriginal Band.
My music has quite literally taken me all over the world. This is just a snippet of my experiences, from an impromptu session in Barcelona with the vice-president of Walt Disney to a private party in St. Tropez, from a session in Cape Clear off West Cork to a private party in Ardagh, County Limerick, from the diary room at Sea Sessions Festival, Donegal to a chance meeting with Tom Baxter.
I have gained a wealth of experience & contacts all over the world from playing my music. My albums are now in 4 continents & I have regular radio play on local & digital/internet radio stations & a vast selection of footage on youtube.com. Clips from all my trips are listed www.youtube.com/davemorrisseymusic.
So this is me, a sublime pleasure, share it!
