Kasim Barnett also lyrically known as Kazz was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He was first introduced to Hip Hop at the age of 5 when his older brother asked him to freestyle to a beat playing on the radio of a boombox. Initially shy, he began rambling rhymes encouraged by his older brother to keep practicing. Soon he would realize that his older brother was an emcee after witnessing him in some street battles and hearing random freestyles when in his presence. For some time Kazz had took a break from wanting to be great at emceeing and it wasn't until he went to college where he was inspired to compose and record Hip Hop music.
At the beginning of the summer semester, before fall semester freshman year, he heard down the hall from his dorm room shouts, screams, and what sounded like an instrumental playing in the background. He walked down the hall and entered the room which appeared to be hosting a freestyle battle. Amazed at what he had seen, at the end of the battle he asked the winner if he could teach him how to rap. He said he wouldn't mind at all and gave Kazz a CD player, an instrumental CD, a pen and notepad, explained what a verse and a hook was, and said write some songs. Kazz would compose a song, show the guy and he would honestly say if it was hot or not. He soon got good enough to where he composed and recorded his first album.
After the first semester his mentor left, but he continued to compose music; however, he was not as motivated without his mentor and the other friends whom he had rapped with, so his thrive to rap drastically minimized. Soon he was released from college due to unstructured priorities and financial reasons. Later, Kazz joined the US Navy and was assigned to his first duty station in Naples, Italy. There he was introduced to Hip Hop again and joined the group known as Lava Clique. He began freestyling, writing rhymes and recording again. At a later date, Lava Clique had united with Full Byrd Ent after giving an outstanding performance together in Sicily. They went on to perform all over Naples to include clubs, bars, and military venues. In Rome, they opened up for Lil Jon and tore the place apart.
Due to all the members of the group being in the military, we all began to slowly become physically distant. While in Naples he recorded over a 100 freestyles, 3 albums, a mixtape, and numerous features on singles with other rappers. He is currently residing in Virginia Beach, VA still releasing new singles for his family, friends, fans and the world. His east coast style is lyrical with a flow any beat would propose to. He speaks about past and current world/life events trying to capture his audience in a state of relative understanding. Listen to his music and he swears you will not be disappointed.
