“Sunny, soulful folk music that is irresistible. Williams’ voice is just as unique as it is reminiscent of other great vocalists that have come before him.” (Indie Music Reviewer) Whetherman is the moniker of 30 year-old independent singer-songwriter Nicholas Williams, who has released six full length albums of melody-filled folk tales since 2007. His recent manifestation 'Seeds for Harvest', released in the Spring of 2015, showcases the Midwest native's effortless ability to write earnest lyrics with soulful delivery to create his own timeless sound.
Living on the road for the better part of the last three years, his surroundings have secured songs of conviction, poetry and resonance of nature alongside airy vocals and easy-listening grooves that lift the spirits and feed the soul, akin to the likes of Ray Lamontagne or some of Van Morrison's early recordings. "Each release embodies the new places I've found inside myself. I have a healthy obsession with traveling to discover new places and revisit old, on top of culturing myself musically," says Williams. Whetherman is completely independent from management, agencies and contracts. Every aspect of the project is handled in some form by Williams, taking a grassroots approach to reach the eardrums of others by living the music he's creating.
In the deep Southeast, Whetherman performs with six-member band who have been a large part of the sound behind his two most recent albums. This group takes nothing away from his artfully established singer-songwriter presence, only provide an eclectic and appropriate array of elements spanning America's enriched musical history. The cast includes: Rachel Murray (Vocals), JP Salvat (Percussion), Alex Hayward (Drums), Adam Mantovani (Upright Bass), Drew Matulich (Mandolin/Fiddle/Guitar) and Eric Brigmond (Keys).
As Whetherman, Williams has opened for acclaimed acts such as: The Wailers, The Wood Brothers, Howie Day, Donavon Frankenreiter, Anders Osbourne, Town Mountain, Brendan James and Zach Deputy. He’s performed in over 40 states across the US since 2012, toured Western Europe in 2014 and will be playing throughout the UK in May of 2015.
