Chris Kudela—Songs for Lovers and Losers, and Everyone In Between
Chris explains, “Everyone has a story to tell, but lots of people just don’t know how to tell it. Loved? Check. Lost? Check. Lucky? Time will tell…”
Starting with his days in New York City, Chris found inspiration in getting lost in a crowd, in the hyper-stimulation that a large city can provide, but also in getting away from it all. “We’d escape upstate to get clear of the noise and the crazy pace. I love the city, but sometimes you have to find some open space and a little time just to be still and let things settle.”
Now based just outside of Philadelphia, and having served tenure in a series of bands from Blindfold the Sun to My Friend Autumn, Chris has come into his own as a songwriter and seasoned solo artist. “I love the band, four-against-the-world experience, and I’m thrilled to have been a part of that, but I'm really looking forward to working on the solo material.”
That solo material includes tracks such as the bittersweet "TKO Chicago", where romantic notions of a fresh start in the big city meet a cold and quick end, as well as “Finish What You Start”, in which the protagonist is spurned by his muse but can only beg to be put of his misery once and for all. And could it be the same character in “Before You’re Gone”, who now has the girl, only to lose her again after going to extremes to please in “New Best Friend”? In such songcraft, all narrative lines are blurred. Is this fact or fiction?
Chris cracks a smile. “You never know…and that’s not such a bad thing.”
