There are very few bands that Dagaz can be compared to, but you can hear influences from Bathory, Iron Maiden, Amon Amarth, Black Sabbath and Enslaved to name a few.
Dagaz began as a personal project of Tom “Thodrekr” Guevara in 2004. Inspired by all forms of metal and rock, Thodrekr composed the beginnings of what would turn out to be the majority of Dagaz’s first album “From Ancient Wisdom” Over time, Dagaz began to advance in complexity and, finally, became a true band in the fall of 2010 with Thodrekr on bass and vocals, Sébastien Chauvin and Tom Edwardson on guitars and Tylor Lourie on drums.
After 9 months of practicing and re-working the original songs, Dagaz played their first show in Montreal, Quebec in June of 2011. Stéphane Deschênes (Ex-Obtenebris) played the bass for this gig and was later fully integrated into the band as the permanent bass player. The first show was a great success. Other shows followed that year including a show in St Hyacinthe, Quebec opening for Arkona.
During the summer of 2011, Dagaz entered the studio to record their first album “From Ancient Wisdom” The album was recorded at Gabriel Scoppa Studio and Krighammer Studios in Montreal. “From Ancient Wisdom” was released on April 14th 2012. Word of mouth keeps spreading the word of Dagaz’s unique blend of melodic death metal, classic heavy metal and rock and the album is growing in popularity.
In the fall of 2011, Dagaz’s drummer Tylor Lourie left the band and, after a long search, Dagaz found a new drummer Ariel Cota (Ex-Void Within).
Today, Dagaz is getting ready to get back into the scene with a new look, a new drummer and new songs. A new album is on the horizon for Dagaz. The next album promises to be more evolved and complex. Dagaz is molding a new sound one song at a time and will be bringing this music to you very soon.
