It takes years for some to find their calling in life. However, for the soulful sultry songstress, Nykki Nichole, a career in music was more than a calling…it was her destiny. At an extremely early age the young starlet was continuously surrounded by various types of music and musicians. Her father was the lead guitarist for the 70’s Funk group The Tom Brown Band who gave us the classic hit funk song “Jamaica Funk”. Her mother was a make up artist and stylist to the stars having worked with various industry icons such as Lena Horn, Phylis Hyman, Frankie Beverly, Cameo, Roger and Zap and Earth Wind & Fire. Even her uncle, Richard Cummings, a renowned pianist, scored the hit Broadway musical “Bring in the Noise Bring in the Funk” and also toured over 10 years with maga talent Harry Belafonte as his Musical Director. Being raised in a world so chock full of entertainment, Nykki Nichole spent most her childhood bouncing between New York City and Hollywood where her parents did most of their work. It was also in this world of entertainment that she began her love affair with music. “I was always in the company of such incredible artists and musicians as a child because of my parents, so as a result I was really influenced by many of the greats such as Phylis Hyman, Anita Baker, Regina Belle, Toni Braxton, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah, Lauryn Hill, and Sade to name a few. Through them and my family, I developed a deep love for singing, performing and making music and I been hooked ever since” says the vibrant vocalist. “I used to lock myself in the closet with my first mini boombox and zone out; pretending I was performing for my future audience.” It wasn’t long before that love affair became public as by 17 years old Ms. Nykki Nichole found herself in the famous record label bigwig Clive Davis’s office, being recruited as one third of the R&B girl group “Lyric” which eventually went on to being signed as J Records first girl group. Unfortunately the group disbanded shortly after the first tour due to creative differences. During this time Nykki Nichole began honing her skills as a consummate artist and developed another love affair with the guitar. She was blessed enough to receive first hand guitar lesson by her high-demand guitarist father, Kevin Cummings, and as a naturally inclined musician Nichole began composing her own original lyrics to her own original songs. As she honed these incredible skills she eventually received an offer to join a new girl group known as “Dynasty” with the same lead singer of the last girl group “Lyric” but with a freshly added female vocalist to the mix. The new and improved trio was signed under Urban Legends Productions, which is the production company responsible for R&B hits like J Holiday’s “Put You to Bed” and The Dream’s “Shawty Is A Ten”. Her then new girl group Dynasty developed a nice industry buzz by meeting with most of the major record labels and execs creating a little bidding war as to who would sign them first but unfortunately that buzz wouldn’t last long as the group ultimately separated after about a year’s time. Still undeterred by these consistent disappointments, the artist known as Nykki Nichole fearlessly began to rise like a Phoenix from the ashes of her past groups. Suffocated by the frustration of working with groups, Nykki Nichole finally felt she had enough experience and poise to make her own way and finally discovered a breath of fresh air as an official solo artist. She soon began to forge her own sound of what she refers to as “Rock/Soul” and went on to start her own production company called “Rock Soulizm Inc” she is now regularly in the studio recording her debut album entitled “Nykki’s Revenge” Her live shows are now backed by an amazing band of powerhouse musicians including Nate Jones on bass as her musical director. “You can catch me and my sexy band killin the stage at venues all over the NYC music scene,” says Nykki “and lemme tell you, they better watch out for me ok… ‘cause I’m ready to take the world by storm!”
Backed with true talent incredible drive along with both brains and stellar beauty, Nykki Nichole has sure got the better half of the game on lock so keep watch.
