Polarizer is a rock band from Chicago, Illinois featuring Taylor Brennan (vocals) , Ian Palmer (guitar / bass), Ben Ludwig (drums), and Stan Tencza (keyboards/ effects). The project came together as three of their separate bands came to an end at similar times. Taylor, Ian, and Ben started writing Polarizer material during the summer of 2011 as their project at the time was meeting less frequently. By the end of summer, they had a handful of songs and started demoing the tracks to Stan, a keyboardist from Taylor’s hometown of Providence. Stan moved to Chicago at the start of October, and the four formed Polarizer shortly after.
The word Polarizer has dual meanings; an object that filters light, or a person or thing that divides opposing factions, opinions, etc. The music of Polarizer fits within these definitions. The band's songs land on either side of the rock format; between heavy, punchy walls of sound, and quiet, spacey melodies. The dynamics make for an intense live performance and listening experience.
Polarizer continues to write material for the first complete record, due out by spring of 2012. Taylor, Ben, Ian, and Stan are surprised by the fluid writing process, and how the sound is developing further away from the sounds of their prior bands and into something completely on its own.
