Strive is four-piece hard rock band out of Oakland, New Jersey. Their sound has been favorably compared to natural, guitar-driven rock n’ roll sound of bands like the Foo Fighters and Paramore. In the spring of 2012 they reached the finals of the Bamboozle Festival “Break Contest,” a battle of the bands-type event where they competed against bands throughout New Jersey, New York, and parts of Pennsylvania and Connecticut for a slot on one of the biggest music festivals on the East coast. They spent that summer recording their first EP, Strive, which was released in November 2012.
The members of Strive will be promoting their self-titled EP with shows in their home state of New Jersey, as well as a few shows in New York City and a tour of college campuses this winter. Their debut release features a number of raw, hard-nosed rock tunes, as well as some lighter, pop-inspired songs; which are poised to be future singles for this up-and-coming independent group. “Mistakes” and “Leave It All Behind,” two live-show crowd pleasers will be featured on the CD, along with six other tracks that will encourage rock fans that rock is alive and well in the spirit of this young, energetic group of musicians.
From Buckcherry to Nirvana to a completely transformed version of The Killer’s “Somebody Told Me,” Strive has a unique ability to fuse borderline metal songs with pop in a way that resonates with music listeners of all backgrounds.
Each member of the group brings a unique personality and presence to the band. Singer/guitarist Ryan Flannery has the look and musical skill that will make you believe he’s destine to be a star, while drummer Joe Fahey basically puts on a juggling act while drumming, and guitarist Dylan Rios thrashes around violently to the point where it is not a question of if, but WHEN something is going to be destroyed on stage. Combined with the over-the-edge, insanely energetic Mike Castiglia on bass, you are left with a band with some of the most eclectic presences and sounds on the rock scene today.
Strive’s debut EP will hold true to that live-show feel, and capture the plethora of personalities and musical styles that separates your friend’s local garage band from a household name in rock.
