La Historia de Maria Fantasma
“Maria Fantasma” is the Nome De Plume of singer/songwriter, Ryan Blake Wallace. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1981. He’s been working in music since…
You know what, I’m sick of writing these things in third person. I’m a real dude and the persona you’re supposed to project is misleading. I don’t have a manager or someone else to write this, so I’m just gonna be real with you. I write a lot of narrative songs about murder, death, drug use, empty relationships, a lot of dark subjects, because they helpe me/us process the finite beauty of our lives and the struggles we all go through. I write songs that happen in a world I designed as a tribute to the woman I love. She inspires me and deserves to live forever and this is how I commit her to the ages. I have a romantic heart that feels pain on a big level. Pain is an important ingredient in a relatable song. That’s what Soul music is all about. The pain I feel is there to remind you that you are not alone in your struggles and heartbreak and loss. I have so much fun playing live and hanging with the other awesome artists in this beautiful city. I don’t dwell in a negative space until the craft calls for it. Sometimes you just have to hurt.
I play with some great drummers, producers, and artists from Oklahoma, like OKC’s Sticky Strangelets, Tulsa’s RISK on da Disk, Robby Housh from Cubby and Johnny Badseed and the Rotten Apples, and drummer/producer/all-around good guy Blake Jarman from Alex and the Anders/FM Pilots. I hang with a lot of hip hop artists because they’re hungry and that’s hard to find in the rock world. Our city has an awesome hip hop scene full of talented and unique perspectives. The most important ingredient is the audience, so your perspective is extremely valuable. Please follow me on YouTube, FaceBook, Twitter, ReverbNation, and all the other crap we use to communicate. I love to talk about peoples’ stories and interests. Please share my music and media with your friends and support all of us Oklahoma acts that are out here grinding, trying to make it.
I like Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Bobby Womack, A Tribe Called Quest, Nirvana, The Pixies, The Roots, books, movies, and beautiful women of all shapes, races, and ages. I’m a vegetarian but I cook food of all kinds for anyone who would like to eat some. I’m a pretty open book, if you like that sort of thing. Thanks for your support and your time. Don’t sleep on your boy, I’m going places. See you out there. Love, RyanMF.
