My name is Shauna Sweeney and I'm a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. I have also been called "Shauna-Na-Na-Na" (sung of course, in any key) or "the bongo girl"--by people who see me playing my djembe drum and have NO idea what to call it! I've spent a lot of my twenty-seven years pursuing my passions for traveling, writing, climbing trees and petting animals, among other things, but the passion that most defines me has always been music. It has brought me to some amazing places--sharing show bills with artists I adore including Dave Matthews Band, Matt Nathanson, Better Than Ezra and Sister Hazel. I've performed the national anthem for the Florida Marlins twice and was the featured "house band" for University of Miami football games. I've worked with incredible producers and musicians while recording my original EP Catch the Light (available on iTunes and my website). In 2011 I had the honor of performing for the U.S. military troops and their families at "GTMO" in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
My music influences vary from awesome chicks like Alanis and Sheryl to Ryan Adams, Dispatch, The Police, Michael Jackson and Weezer. As for my own style, the Palm Beach Post describes it as "continuing to impress...laid-back, witty acoustic rock that's neither boring or twee". Music was always around me as a child in New England--my family is the type who can't go half an hour without breaking into some kind of song. My dad would rock some up-tempo blues on the piano and I was learning to play the clarinet, so we would "jam". And I credit my mother, aunts and their friends with introducing me to local music festivals and coffeehouse open mics as a young teen. To this day some of my favorite musical moments are from those late-night music-fest campfires, swapping songs with other musicians and music-lovers. The lyrics would seem to just hang in the air like the wood smoke, curling up around us and our guitars. Mmm. And when I sing in front of larger crowds with all the lights and speakers, the best moments are the ones when it still feels a bit intimate and magical, like those campfires.
So that's my aim--to keep making music, and to be a part of more of those great moments. If you'd like to come out and join me, I'll be playing shows throughout my beloved South Florida this Spring! Hopefully we can have a cool moment together. ; ) ...Dates for other U.S. shows and beyond will be coming next. If you want me to come play a show near you, email me*! And TELL ME WHERE YOU LIVE! Just kidding. But your venue suggestions are welcomed. In addition to the shows, I'm spending time hangin' with local friends and family, catching a couple Marlins games, enjoying the S. Fla outdoors via kayak, bike, beach, tree-climbing etc, and writing and recording songs for new upcoming releases!! I can't wait to share them with everyone and anyone who wants to hear them. More updates on that soon but until then please enjoy the songs and videos on the website, and I'll be posting more along the way. Feel free to leave your comments! And please "like" me, "share" me, "follow" me and "subscribe" to me and all that good stuff! Thanks so much for reading; I really hope you enjoy my tunes and stop by again soon.
Cheers all : )
