Bold, Vibrant, Innovative, Unique and I am not just talking about Dwayne “Reez” Barnes hometowns, I am talking about the producer/artist himself. “Reez” hails from the cities of Boston to the parishes of Jamaica and his worldly experiences are definitely expressed through his talent. Born September 8, 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts but soon after moved to Jamaica to live with his family in Mandeville, Manchester & Corn Piece Clarendon and there is where the magic and genius started. His father has been an audio engineer since before he was born so naturally him growing up into music was inevitable. Growing up he immediately took hold of all of the things surrounding him such as; music production equipment, recording, mixing, and lyricism. Anything that was involved in creating music within the studio he was enamored in. The everyday the culture and flavor of Jamaica would shape Reez, his sound, his creativity and his “ear” in music.
Reez began producing beats at the age of 12 with his older brother "Gavie"in Jamaica. It wasn't untill later years to come that he started create and write music. He did not take rap seriously at first, only recording songs to hear himself and critique his music. “I have never really taken the rapping part of my talents serious. It was something that came naturally for me. When friends of mine heard me rap for the first time they encouraged me to take it more seriously but I never really did.” Soon after Reez began making beats for himself and other associates to rap and create songs to. A few years later he relocated from Jamaica back to his birthplace Boston MA where rapping became more of a personal expression for him, and here in Boston is where he further perfected his craft. Working in a mini studio in his mothers’ attic in which he created he started to put his training, experiences, and flavor of Jamaica in to an art form. “I am both a Jamaican and a Bostonian, I love both places because I grew up in both places and it has shaped who, and what I stand for today”. From humble beginnings comes great success and "Reez" is living proof of that.
“Studio 450” a community center where they had a recording studio and producing booths and after school activities took the interest of the you musician. Here is where he met his business partner Bryan “Avi” Trench and Ted “Top Cat” Cambell a well know producer/engineer. When asked what his strengths are and what he could bring to the entertainment industry he says, “My biggest strengths I have to say is my work ethic get me? the songs I rap and create are different, well at least to my liking. it doesn't just have a hip hop feel to it, mi bring di dancehall vibe wid it yuh zimmie. Im not expecting everyone to like or accept the music i make but its something i love and enjoy doing,so why not share it." With new music on the way he is hoping to turn a few heads and make some noise in Jamaica, Boston and Overseas. “I have had ups and down in both Boston and Jamaica but from those ups and downs, I am the end result. They have made me stronger as a person and spiritually. They always say you live & you learn and that’s just what I have been doing, both musically and personally and I show every bit of it in my music and the songs I create." No one know's where this journey will take Reez but it’s a journey we know he is willing to take. It started from the beautiful Island of Jamaica, to the vibrant city streets of Boston, to the sunshine state of Florida Dwayne "Reez" Barnes is bound to be a force in the industry.
