Deborah “DJ” Hamouris is a performer, teacher, recording artist, choral director, community organizer and producer of musical events. In any given week, she performs a house concert with The DulciMates and solo at a local senior residence or two; teaches dulcimer at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley; directs Women & Song, a folk-based singing group; and leads a singing workshop. Trained as a musician from age 5, she found music as the constant in her life and finished her degree as a voice major in 1996. Since then, both jazz and folk music have sustained her career as teacher & performer. Deborah especially loves teaching mountain dulcimer, rounds & Circlesinging in groups large & small. She also organizes the East Bay Mountain Dulcimer Club and Sing for Your Life (an annual 12-hour Circlesinging marathon). Deborah is currently recording an album of her original music with guitarist, Mimi Fox.
