Seemingly prophetic and from the title of the first single off her EP album, “Ottrina Bond-The EP,” available now on iTunes, Ottrina is already to 'set the World On Fire’ with noted comparable vocal nuances of power singers such as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and even Aretha Franklin. The video for the song was directed by Joe Labisi, the mastermind behind videos for artists such as Chris Brown and Mariah Carey and has almost 80,000 views on Youtube, proving that it is merely a matter of time before the world knows who the singer is.
Growing up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, music was the inevitable path for the scientist turned singer/songwriter. As head of security for local radio station WDAS, Ottrina’s grandfather played a major role in the musical influences that color the background of the singer/songwriter. The detective’s employment at the radio station came with benefits of special releases and signed copies of albums that are now the pride of the singer’s music collection. Having cousins as members of the 1970′s R&B sensation ‘The Stylistics’, and an aspiring singer as next door neighbor also didn’t hurt. It was this neighbor that helped coach the singer to her first solo stage performance at the age of 6. This was just the beginning of days that the singer would steal away to write or sing. “While my friends were outside playing, I was inside practicing breath control and how to hold a mic.” Ottrina was the youngest to take the stage that day in a performance that her sister still describes as a scene she’d like revisited when her life flashes before her. An elegant mix of her influences and hometown roots can be heard from the Miami singer who as a teen, sang in gospel choirs before doing background vocals for a contemporary gospel artist, while also performing Rachmananov with the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia, as well as pop songs in a stage plays.
Often called 'a young Whitney', Ottrina delivers deeply emotional lyricism coupled with moving and memorable melodies like that of “World On Fire,” similar to songwriters John Legend or Adele while also serving up bass-driven dance songs with chart buster potential to hold their own alongside a Katy Perry or Rihanna track. Still, 'that voice' as people say after hearing the artist, is what is most unforgettable.
Songs from 'The EP' can be heard currently on Pandora, with "Not Looking Back" receiving airplay on several college, internet, satellite and FM (BDS) radio stations. The song hit multiple digital charts consecutively for 6 weeks.
The artist has had some TV time as well. During the promotional tour for the album in cities such as her hometown Philadelphia and surrounding areas of Pennsylvania and New York, 'the EP' was featured on The HYPE, a TV show produced by well-known Philadelphian radio personality, Tiffany Bacon. She also performed live as a featured artist on Record Shop TV; both shows airing on Comcast TV. Ottrina is busy working on new material for her next solo album while also a featured artist on the "We The People" project with both English and Spanish versions recently released to iTunes. The song had a successful launch being featured in the Live Like Bella event sponsored by Miami Children's Cancer Foundation and Ronald McDonald House.
