Lee Anna McGuire / Bio

When people think of singer-songwriter’s in the Nashville area, most would think of country music… an Opryland character, sequins and backing instrumentalists, but Lee Anna Culp is a more dexterous version of the typical Nashville female musician.

Her voice draws a room in. Her lyrics and charm distract you from the stereotype of her blonde hair and blue eyes. She’s been playing with guitar player Ryan Swift since 2008. From 2009-2011 she and Swift then transitioned into working as a four piece band for about a year alongside former keyboardist Patrick Summey and the late drummer Jarred Darby while still living in her hometown, Birmingham, Alabama.
She’s been based in Nashville since May 2011, where she and Swift both can be found playing around town at venues like the Basement, Mercy Lounge, The Listening Room, and Mad Donnas. The pair incorporates the acoustic guitar, backing each other up on the keys, stomp bass and tambourine pedal, electric guitar and Cajon. Lee Anna is touring beginning in April through out the southeast until October.

In 2012, Lee Anna released one free song per month directly from her website and Soundcloud for the entire year. The final outcome of what they called “The Brandywine Project”- titled after their old apartment building- will be whittled down to a five-song EP compilation of the best, most popular songs of the year. The EP is set to release in summer 2013 under the title Big Love.
In 2010, Lee Anna released her first single, “Keep me posted” from the full-length album Bells and Doves. The single is still getting airplay and recently appeared in the Hallmark movie NearlyWeds.
Bells and Doves dropped on her hometown’s radio station Feb. 2010 and continues to have success around the world, with songs appearing on TV programs in France, Poland, Brazil, Ukraine, Australia and several countries in southeast Asia over the past three years. Most notably, “Whatever will be” was nabbed for the backing music in a trailer for Fox’s third season of Glee in Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia, while “I do” appeared in popular Polish TV show “Julia. The placements have landed her a solid following all across southeast Asia and Europe.
Lee Anna and Ryan Swift recently moved out of the “Brandywine Projects” as they called them, and into the Ryman Lofts, a brand new, exclusively-artists apartment building downtown Nashville that was developed by managing executive of ASCAP, Tim Dubois. The buzz around town is that this building is housing and creating an environment for some great new talent in the Nashville area. Nashville's Mayor Dean held a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 18, where Lee Anna and several other Ryman Loft's artists were featured together as a band, performing a co-written collaborative song titled "Looks Like We're Home."
Lee Anna signed with Nashville based publishing company “Songs for the Planet” on April 6, making 2013 an even more exciting year for the singer-song/writer.
“I’ve been writing songs since I was 11 years old. So calling Nashville home and being able to work creatively, writing for Songs for the Planet is a dream come true.
