Waiting For Air is a band that is formed of 5 friends that have a passion for the music they play. We’ve played venues all along the east coast, trying to reach our goal of making it in the music industry. Mike Johnson (drums) and Bill Gregory (guitar) have played in bands together since High School. They went on a mission after the break-up of their last band (Self Afflicted) to find member that would make this band the one to make it to the top. Justin Neale was found through a flyer posted in a music store, who blew everyone away at auditions and set his place as the front man for Waiting For Air. Michael Wilkerson (bass) was discovered through a co-worker of Mike Johnson's. With addition of a seasoned bass player, and a skilled vocalist and songwriter, the band seemed complete. Formed in 2007, the band released their first full length CD “Killing Me” in 2009 recorded by Tim Lawter (Marshall Tucker Band). The mix of the music included the catchy choruses and hooks of “Stupid”, the contrast of more emotionally darker tones of “Seductress”, and the satisfying bone crunching, raw sounds in the title track “Killing Me” gave a perfect introduction to the band’s diverse sound and talent.
With a new release in 2011 (yet to be titled) the band further pushes themselves in polishing their sound by further adding more hooks while keeping the dark dirty sound that they’re known for. In late 2011 they added former Self Afflicted vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, Daniel Gregory to fill in on guitar and backing vocals to fill in the spaces needed to perform these works live.
The end of 2012 saw the departure of Justin Neale as front man and lead vocalist, who has been succeeded by Chad Smith. Chad brings a raw talent that sounds much more like a finely tuned instrument. His lyrics add a positive spin to the music, garnered from his personal life experiences. While his influences come from the likes of Myles Kennedy and Brent Smith, it's obvious that his sound is unique and his own.
Since his addition in December of 2012, Waiting For Air has already begun the process of recording a full-length album.
Constantly striving to evolve and polish their sound Waiting For Air has definitely shown to be a power-house combination that’s guaranteed to satisfy those with a craving for something that moves you emotionally, has words you find yourself singing when you’re not listening, and music that rocks you to the core...Music that leaves you Waiting For Air.
