We met at a social justice event and that's where the magic began. It's funny how things work. That same week, we made our first song, titled Dreamed World. A few Live performances and hits later, we decided to make it official and we are now known as INTHEBUILDING. Both of us grew up in the streets of Oakland, California. We were both victims of gun violence and undocumented youth with no legal status in the country. We carry our struggle and our emotions and we let it lose on the microphone. Our songs carry very real and deep messages.
Krsna N. Avila:
It began as a project. One day last year I was singing aloud to one of my favorite bands when I turned around and found my dad listening passionately. He suggested that I keep going and told me that he was unaware that we had a singer in the family. That is where my motivation to write songs as an expression of my emotions began!
My songs allow you to experience my overcoming of various struggles. The sounds and lyrics are a form of expression and I use them to tell a story. Although it is a hobby, I find it very therapeutic to do open mics, collaborate with other talented artists and to spread my music!
I recently graduated the University of California, Davis, am managing the legal services for a non-profit in SF and am planning on attending law school in the near future. I mention all of this because I find myself to be a very hard working individual with big dreams!
