Born and raised in little Rhode Island, Christina Gomes had big dreams. Singing as a youngster in her Nana's backyard among soulful musicians and powerful voices, she began her journey to find her own voice. Traveling cross country and over pacific waters she found herself on the sandy beaches of Kailua, Hawaii with an ukulele in her hand. The moment her feet hit the sand, she began writing and performing, soon picking up a guitar and a new found confidence. With her deep soulful sound coalesced with an evocative song writing style, Christina has been making waves amongst friends and family, and she is now ready to share her music with the masses.
Christina’s voice has been compared to Tracy Chapman, and Fiona Apple; her style likened to Susan Tedeschi. Her Blues, Americana roots have led her to write songs filled with stories that transcend time. Her melodies capture her listeners, and her lyrics send you on a journey through human nature; to the depths of love and heartbreak and back through the glories of redemption and triumph. Her music has connected with people across a varied and eclectic fan base.
In October 2010, Christina was asked to play the Rally to Restore Sanity Satellite event in Honolulu, HI, opening for Hawaii’s legendary slack key guitarist Makana. In March 2011, her philanthropic callings led her to play the Japan disaster relief concert sanctioned by the Red Cross. Since her debut as a live performer she has played Formaggio Grill, and SOUL, and currently performs every Wednesday evening 6-8pm at Pinkys Pupu Bar and Grill in Kailua, HI.
With influences from blues women young and old, she admires Adele, Etta James, Billie Holiday, and the late Amy Winehouse. Along the journey she has gained a Masters in Psychology, which she uses to counsel local foster youth. She also runs a weekly music therapy group to help at risk teens increase their own artistic potential. Christina released her debut album in August 2011 An EP titled Fly Little Birdie.
