Tiffany Carlen / Bio
Growing up in northern New Jersey, Tiffany’s future as a Country singer-songwriter may have seemed far-fetched. But her musical family and the influence of performers, like Bonnie Raitt, Etta James, Patsy Cline and Trisha Yearwood, steered her toward a career grounded in roots music.
“I started singing in church and school choir and was very shy,” says Tiffany, who later overcame her stage fright performing with small bands. Her travels eventually landed her in Texas, where she performed at opry houses across the state, and armed herself with a mic for the Country/Rock band South 87, while continuing her vocal training. In 2008, she and her husband moved their growing family to the Fort Worth area and Tiffany began work on her debut solo album.
The album speaks to the range of influences that have shaped Tiffany’s music and lyrics, from her childhood growing up with six brothers and sisters to her life experiences and the artists that inspired her Country Blues sound.
“My songs are sultry and sexy at times,” Tiffany says. “Some will hit way down deep; some are about the lives of “real” housewives, the endless strength of women, our moments of truth, love, and laughter.” Her voice mirrors the range of emotions expressed in her music, at moments evincing the twang of Patsy Cline, the strength of Shania Twain, and the sexy vibes of Stevie Nicks, another early influence on Tiffany’s musical pallet. Still, she has her own distinct sound. A skillful singer, Tiffany’s vocals move effortlessly between low tones expressing the lingering ache of lost love, and the high notes of reachable possibilities.
Her songs clearly come from the heart. “I love to write,” says the blue-eyed blonde mother of three. “There really is nothing better than singing a song, connecting with the audience at a personal level. I love how a song can affect someone, even me.”
In Tiffany’s case, the effect she has is mesmerizing.
