It is very rare that you meet an artist that is classy, sexy and soulful. These are the attributes that are blended perfectly in the R&B soul singer Kawanna. Although she began singing as a child, her love of music and the arts were quietly pushed to the background as she focused more of her attention on academics in school. She eventually went on to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later a Master’s Degree in Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
In the midst of her studies and other career pursuits, Kawanna always found a safe haven and channel of expression through singing, songwriting, poetry and dramatic interpretation. Kawanna uses all of these elements of talent to interpret a song. Radio talk show host Katherine Waddell raved about Kawanna's song "The Way" saying, "We love it!" and has placed it in regular rotation on her show. In a recent Xpoze Radio interview, Willow Smith chimed in saying Kawanna's single "Coming Out" was "groovy" and that she"liked it!". Kawanna has received a host of other compliments and comments from radio hosts and fans alike that love her music.
Kawanna has made appearances in various locations such as The Wine Up, Bull and Barrister, Dream Nightclub and several private events in which she has showcased her craft. Kawanna hopes to bring her all of her previous artistic experiences and her current passion to the forefront to build her brand, image and style as an artist.
Currently, Kawanna is writing and recording new songs for her upcoming project. She hopes to use this project as a presentation of Kawanna to the world and to music fans everywhere. “It all about creating my sound!” she says. Kawanna believes that the songs she writes will ring true to the hearts of men and women everywhere and that people can relate to the lyrics and melodies of the songs she creates. Look for Kawanna to be a breakout artist that will satisfy your musical appetite and then leave you craving for more.
