The Abusers began as a high school band in Sedalia, Mo., in 1978, bringing the spectre of punk rock to the Midwest masses for the first time. Inspired by the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, the Clash and others, we persisted for four years until life sprayed us in different directions.
Then we split. We had shit to do.
In 2008, The Abusers regrouped to play a wildly popular 30th anniversary gig at the Cherry Street Artisan in Columbia, Mo. It was tough to pull off. Andrew was in LA, Clifton was in Houston, and Scott was in Columbia. We needed a drummer and tapped long-time friend Jimi Morgan of Lee's Summit.
With only a few hours of rehearsal the day before the gig, The Abusers rocked a packed house, and folks begged for more. Now, we're playing semi-regularly again because, no matter what, it's about doing what you love. And we love playing music.
Listen to the tunes. Come to the shows. ... Rinse, and repeat.
