Plastic Barricades / Bio

Shimmering bass and ringing guitars
Meaningful lyrics healing your scars
Heart-breaking beat put on repeat
Mystical keyboards make us complete
Curious, happy, honest and sad
Future of mankind makes us gloomy and mad
Don’t try to run, nowhere to hide
There is no escape from our little Plastic Tribe!

Romantic and honest, gloomy and curious, melodic and melancholic, Plastic Barricades chronicle life in the troubled yet fascinating XXI century with painstaking sincerity, asking questions and trying to find the answers. Inspired and influenced by almighty Radiohead, Oasis, Coldplay, Muse, Keane, Razorlight, Nirvana and many others, trio loves to experiment with styles, sound and approach.

Based in North-West London, Plastic Barricades are Dan Kert on guitar, keyboards and vocals, Daniele Borgato on bass and Frazer Webster on drums.

The story of PB started on the other side of Europe, in Tallinn, capital of tiny but very proud Estonia on a windy autumn day of 2007. Dan Kert on guitar and vocals, Jan Laan on bass and Kir N. behind the drumkit released their first single “London walk/Heavy world” and dived straight into the magical world of gigging. Then there was chaotic and unforgettable tour of the Baltics in an old trusty green VW van, “Metropolitan Paranoia EP” recording in Latvian capital Riga and “Gamble Inc. EP” recording in UK capital London. Kir was replaced by Vassili, music shapeshifted and the band began to wonder: what the hell are we doing here?

In summer 2012 Plastic Barricades have locked themselves into the studio in Tallinn and came out with a 6-track EP. “Tree of Ideas” was released on the 8th of September, just a week before Dan and Jan evacuation to London. The disc features romantic and desperate “9Lives”, hypnotizing and dreamy “Planets”, determined and passionate “Climb a Skyscraper” (dedicated to one and only real Spider-man Alain Robert), sarcastic and contagious “Giant Leap Back”, psychic-inspired “Radar ON/OFF” and written-on-a-plane “Airborne”.

In London Dan and Jan met Daniel from Colombia, who joined forces as a new drummer. Daniel played 3 gigs with Plastic Barricades and left for his musical theatre career. And then came Matteo Ippolito, a brilliant drummer from Rome, bringing new unique sparkle to the Plastic Tribe, now totally ready to conquer and rule. Hungry for more changes, the band later replaced Jan with Italian bass sensation Daniele Borgato.

In December 2012 PB have launched a project called “Art inspired by music”, unlocking creativity of the fans all around the world with the new “Tree of Ideas EP”. And survived the End of the World, although there was a bit of hangover involved.

The year of 2013 saw Plastic Barricades gaining momentum on London music scene, gigging around town and collaborating with charity organizations such as Oxfam, British Red Cross and London Blood Donation Centre. It all crashed suddenly when on the 5th of September 2013 Matteo tragically passed away. The darkest day of band’s history will never be forgotten...

But the Earth somehow kept spinning. New drummer auditions were on the way. The band went on rehearsing at London Institute of Contemporary Music Performance where Dan and Daniele were totally blown away by drumming skills of Frazer James Webster. In just three weeks he was performing his inaugural gig at London’s legendary rock venue Water Rats.

Autumn of 2013 was spent conquering the stages and crowds at The Enterprise, Archangel, Sebright Arms, Purple Turtle, 229 Venue and Miller Club. PB first gig outside of London took place in Soundhouse, Leicester. Along with gigs came nominations for "Oxjam Band of the Year" and "MTV Brand New 2014 award".

In February 2014 Plastic Barricades were voted to #1 out of 222 bands participating in Hard Rock Cafe London Global Battle of the Bands competition and played a sold out gig at the notorious London venue. On the 24th of March the band released their new single „Shine!” - an ode to self-improvement and taking chances in the world where it's very easy to get lost. Single received a lot of attention from the British and international media, getting rave reviews and high ratings. In just a month the song got over 100 000 plays on SoundCloud alone.

On the 16th of June the trio introduced their second single from the upcoming album called "Masterminds".Anyone can be a mastermind of his life, all he needs to do is to take full control and responsibility and make the best of it, strive for happiness, success, exploration and constant improvement. "There are no limits, just frontiers!".

The winding road continues....
