JAY / Bio

JAY is an enigma wrapped in a riddle surrounded by history!

George Adrian and Chad Von Haden met in a small club on the Sunset Strip nearly a decade ago.  Brought together by Dee Dee Ramone, Happen’n Harry, and a very long line of astrologically predestined events.

Burned out from kissing mountains of A&R ass over the previous decade and having so little to show for it, a phoenix was born.  From the ashes of discontent rose a promise to make music on their own terms.  Music that Chad and George wanted to hear.

It just so happened as they set out making this music other people liked to hear it too.

They recruited Edward Shemansky (drums) and Johnny Martin (bass) and self produced their first record.  This recording became a huge underground hit in Los Angeles.  It actually garnered the attention of the countries largest and most prestigious PR firm Rogers and Cowan.  R&C did pro bono work for JAY because they believed in the music and its affect on people.  All of the serious underground musos in L.A. were buzzing about JAY.

The next few years were a blur of music and fun.  JAY was invited to play for the AMA pre show party (to the delight of Weezer and a jovial Andy Dick), opened for Eddie Money, headlined the 4 of July festival at Zion National Park, opened for Josh Todd, released their second record “Creature Comfort”, attended the Cure’s induction to the Rock Walk Hall of Fame, and began working on their 3rd record.

Along the way they recruited bassist Steve Walters (a bass players bass player with liquid hands of heavy water) and Mark Tremelgia (a guitarist from Mars versed in the Mississippi delta neon blues).  Occasionally when the weather would permit and stars aligned keyboardist extraordinaire Lindsay Vannoy would lend his keen sounds to recordings and live performances.

George and Chad believe in the same mission and idea they set in motion almost 10 years ago as of this writing:  Make music that they want to hear because no one else they know is making it anymore.

When your first day of puberty starts and the only one in the room that notices is Robert Plant your DNA goes through changes.  When you spend days and days hanging out with your good friends Mr. Bowie, Mr. Cash, and Mr. Morrison, learning the hidden in plane sight bloodline of the Beatles and Stones, you pick up a thing or two.  That line runs a long way and it almost runs out.  You have to really look for it now.  You have to hear the sound in world full of loud carnival hawkers.

Listen to the sound of JAY.  See what you hear.
