Avi & The Uprising is an urban folk collaborative founded by singer songwriter Avi who teaches voice at the Delhi School Of Music and has worked for the likes of the B.B.C. as a professional writer. Innovative songwriting, a fresh rootsy sound, a booming baritone vocal and critically acclaimed videos have helped the project carve a niche for themselves. Avi has pioneered a distinctly Indian grammar of songwriting that fuses ancient mythology with post modern imagery and a unique new urban Indian folk sound. Avi & The Uprising garnered international exposure through balcony tv where his live version of wahe guru was rated in balcony tv’s Top 60 along with Mumford & Sons and The Script, he has also been featured on the prestigious TED talks. The project has drawn gushing press reviews from the likes of NME, Rolling Stone, Times, & The Guardian to name a few. Avi & The Uprising has toured Australia, featured on U.S. , Indian and Irish radio and played many festivals including the Bacardi Nh 7 Weekender, MTV Ragasthan, Delhi Celebrates 100 Years and Gulmarg Winter Festival. Avi’s latest video for ‘Wahe Guru’ features a never been used animation technique that he calls ’Rajmation’ and has received rave reviews and his first video for ‘Boom Boom Shiva’ featuring folk performers from Kathputhli Colony has been featured on VH1.
