Beggars & Poets is a band made up of five individually talented musicians from Tampa, Florida. The band has gone through many changes and even band member tweaks to become the powerhouse that they are today. The two original founding members started a band together doing what they loved best; playing lead guitar and having fun. The influences in the sound they were creating came from all the old classic rockers like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison just to name a few. Alan Barry Bush the lead guitarist and Nate Ryan the drummer played together for a while until the sound started to take on a new feel; incorporating the other sounds that influenced them in their musical life of blues and jazz. Together with Deanna Elliott, their artist development, they began to write the incredible new songs that we hear today, songs that needed as powerful of a singer to pull them off. That is where our lovely vocal goddess Ashley Smith came into the picture. Once she sang with the guys they all knew she was the next piece to the puzzle. Since this point they have gone on to record and develop the project. They took on keyboard player Nathanael Leo a classical and Jazz trained pianist that brought the keys sound to life and it was a much needed presence. After going through a few bass players they have current member Mike Valentino who is also a trained guitarist as well as the bass. After all the growing pains and changes; where the band has landed now is a perfect blend of all musical backgrounds and influences. Every member that has come and gone has also added a feeling into the energy that is Beggars & Poets. Now they are ready to take it all to the next level. They never wanted to be the best “bar band” they could be, they want to be more which is why they work so hard at creating a project that will stand the test of time. They want to get out there and tour the world and play shows in every city while growing and evolving. The best dream they can hope for is to be like the Stones and Fleetwood; after 30 years still be able to sell out shows and do what they love.
For such a young band they have already accomplished do much with the creation of a Superman inspired song "Birth of a Hero". This song was promoted by the lead actor Henry Cavill’s and Man of Steel 2013 pages with being exposed to a combined fan base total of 391,578. This was huge exposure for the band. The band held a name the song contest that was run on both pages the winner was a fan that was flown out to be in the video. The biggest feat in this part of the journey was the song was actually reviewed and accepted to be in the movie as a source spot, but once the scoring was done there unfortunately was not enough space for the song to be placed. The ride was fun and the fan base and exposure they received was priceless as it spans across every continent. This is why they have such a wide range of fans from all countries rather than just US based.
Together they have created a sound like no other band to this date. They have a sound that gets inside you, a sound where you can hear all the influences of blues, classic rock, jazz, funk and even a touch of country, rockabilly, some disco, Motown soul, and even hip hop. They have found a way to make their music blend in a way that mashes all the sounds together like no other band to date. The band does not want to be stuck in one category or genre and let’s be honest nobody just sticks to one style of music when listening. To appreciate music we follow what we connect with, what makes us feel good. This is what they create a variety of songs. Their songs will find a way to touch you on a level that will connect with you, and make you feel a part of their quest for a true grass roots sound. To ALL the Kings and Queens of Blues, Soul, Jazz, and Rock...they are their creation they are the next generation.....they are....Beggars & Poets….
Join the quest with the band to find a plane where all music can be one.
