The First Highland Watch started as bagpipe band in the Philadelphia area back in the late 60's and evolved from a street band (playing parades and concerts) to a successful competition band. The FHW competed at the grade 4 level for many years in the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association, finishing in the top 10 several times and 2nd out of 55 bands in 2003. The band has taken a break from competition but has found a new musical passion: playing rock and roll.
An invitation for the FHW to play an in-store concert at an indie record store led to an idea to add electric guitar and bass to the show. A few experimental gigs later, the band realized they had something unique going on - more rock-n-roll than an electrified celtic folk band plus rock-n-roll with a punk/harder edge sound. In addition to 3 pipers from the competition band, the FHW has been solidified by excellent area musicians on guitar, bass and drums coming on board. The band has begun playing out and is getting rave reviews where ever they go. There is nothing quite like this band out there!
