Jo Cool is the stage name for Taven Johnson. Some may call him a rapper or hip hop artist, but I consider him a poet of our time who combines his story telling abilities intertwined with music. A native of Kansas City who began honing his skills at age 15 by free styling over industry beats. He quickly enhanced his scope of musical understanding and by age 17 was in the studio recording. In 2005 he moved to Chicago to pursue a degree in Music Business with an emphasis on Talent Management from Columbia University. This was where he had his first taste of the stage and hasn't looked back since. In the early days he organized most of his own shows with the help of a few loyal friends and family. In 2008 he returned to Kansas City and picked up where he had left off in Chicago. He immediately began booking and performing shows. While his stage presence is captivating his tireless effort in the studio is where he is making his mark. By age 25 he has put out numerous solo mixtapes (Deliverance volumes 1,2 and 3, Forewarning, The Unheard and the upcoming Unexpected.) The sky is the limit for this young talent who has pulled musical influence from Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Lupe Fiasco, but if I had to describe his sound I would say it is unique to him.
