Don’t be fooled by the name! This northern darling brings a unique and new edge to Canadian acoustic folk. This singer/songwriter, a youngling to the Sudbury scene, mixes folk, indie, rock and alternative styles with a dash of blues and jazz.
Her ever growing and evolving style stems from her love of instrument experimentation. In the course of one night, this musical dabbler has been known to trade her rhythmic guitar stylings, for a smooth jazz/rock piano, to then jump on bass guitar, as well as occasionally whip out her flute.
But her instrumental connoisseurship is only the frame of her flavourful, versatile vocals. Her unique singing (and oftentimes growling, screaming, moaning, and yodeling) are what bring to life her handcrafted songs of life, love, and all the small bits in between.
But regardless of the style and subject matter, Miss Kim Schmidt demands an attentive intensity from her listeners that evokes and inspires. An evening of her originals and covers is sure to be an enlightening and bittersweet delight.
