Janet Grice plays bassoon in a variety of settings, from classical to contemporary to jazz, and performed internationally with Karl Berger, Butch Morris, the STX Ensemble Xenakis, and her groups. Vento Trio performs chamber music of Latin America, and consists of Janet on bassoon, Kevin Willois on flute, and Sarah Bednarcik on clarinet. They performed internationally and released "Brazilian Dances and Inventions" in 2006; their second CD is in production. Janet's 3 CDs feature original and Brazilian jazz with musicians including Nana Vasconcelos, Cyro Baptista and Armen Donelian. Janet was awarded grants from Surdna, Fulbright, National Endowment for the Arts, and Meet the Composer, and earned a Doctorate from Rutgers University, a Masters in composition from New York University and a Bachelor’s from the New England Conservatory. Currently she is the band director at Fordham High School for the Arts in NYC bassoon teacher at the Hoff Barthelson Music School and the Festival de Música de Londrina, Brazil. As a clinician she presented at the Instituto Villa-Lobos in Brazil, the Conservatoire Gabriel Fauré in France, and numerous double reed conferences. As a freelance bassoonist she performs with the Chappaqua Orchestra and numerous ensembles.
