Stephen Kennedy Phillips, better known by his stage name Kennedy Blaq, is an American Singer-Songwriter and self-proclaimed “R&B MC” hailing from Cleveland, Ohio. Blaq has been doing music since a very young age, but became official in December 2010. Since then, he has made quite a name for himself performing all around Cleveland and Kent. Blaq is an R&B singer who was raised on the roots of hip-hop giving him the title of “R&B MC.” His musical style and vocal capabilities have been compared to those of Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, Ne-Yo, as well as Usher. He gained a small fan base with the release of his “R&B Hero Vol. 1” mixtape in the fall of 2011. Following this, he went on to win 1st place in the Collegiate Business Association’s annual Hip Hop & R&B Talent Showcase, which gained him the attention of various members of the music industry such as radio personality Ro Digga and DJ Steph Floss. In the summer of 2012, he released his first ever hip-hop mixtape entitled “Chronicles.” When asked about the title Kennedy Blaq stated that “Every song is a different chapter into my life…I wanted everyone to see the side of me that they never knew existed.” Since then he has performed in various locations, which include the Idea Center, West Side Music and Art Festival, as well as more recently the Kent Stage, the House of Blues, as well as the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. as a part of their “What’s Going On Now” tribute to Marvin Gaye. Lately, you can hear Kennedy Blaq as a featured artist on Young Troubled Mind’s recent project Nzuri Giza. On November 23rd, Kennedy Blaq released his promotional single “Heart Beat” featuring New York-based rapper Leo Light. On April 13, Kennedy Blaq released his much anticipated “R&B Hero Vol. 2” mixtape. The standout tracks of Garden of Love and Enterlewd have brought much attention to his name. He has recently released his "genre-bending" project entitled "NOIR" with the standout songs "Baby Goodnight (Ft. Leo Light)" and Let's Get Gone (Ft. Pro Young)."
