With her sultry tone and charismatic presence, Nia Soul has been entertaining audiences in California since 1997 when she first took to the stage aged 16 as a backing singer for Terry Steele who wrote the hit single for Luther Vandross called Here and Now. As a singer/songwriter Nia Soul has found herself in the most unexpected of places – living and performing as a full-time songwriter/singer. The the last few years have dealt her some interesting surprises and accomplishments…including impressing Simon Cowell to become a Hollywood contestant on American Idol.
Her fans have compared her vocally to Stephanie Mills and Tina Marie, stylistically to Eryka Badu and Laura Nyro, and have said that her ambiance is much like that of India Arie and Jill Scott. She credits much of her musical influence to more modern acts including her two favorite female artists Faith Evans and Gladys Knight. “I really just love soul music and I think soul music has less to do with how a song sounds and more to do with the emotion behind it. I think that’s why these artists move me to do this.”
Currently based out of Greensboro, NC, Nia's schedule includes an average of 10 dates a month, playing regionally through Atlanta, North Carolina and surrounding cities and states. She has opened for several national touring artists.
Nia’s music has continually been noted for its lyrical depth- addressing the human condition, thoughts on love, and the search for inner peace in a very tangible way. The depth Nia tackles in her poetic lyrics are perfectly complemented by a unique blend of neo-soul, with just the right dash of pop…a truly compelling act to watch in person, with the ability to create an intimate setting in locations big and small.”
