Rich Karg / Bio

Rich Karg arrived in Nashville at the ripe old age of two, when his father moved the family down from Ashland, Ohio to pursue his own songwriting career. “I remember my Dad would pitch songs. I’m this little kid in the passenger seat of my Dad’s car, and he’d pull to the curb on 16th Avenue. He’d tell me to wait a second, that he’d be right back and he’d walk in and drop off cassette tapes of his demos, pitching to the artists at all the major labels.”

One of his father’s early connections, proven publisher Pat Higdon, ended up signing Rich and his brother to an artist developmental publishing deal in 2005. The brothers had formed the duo The Karg Boys while in college at MTSU in 2001, and were gaining momentum as an act. “That deal allowed me to collaborate and learn from hit makers like Kostas, Jess Leary, Phil Everly, Rivers Rutherford, Paul Kennerley, Bob DiPiero, Byron Hill, Craig Wiseman, Don Schlitz, and many others.”

During that time, Rich embraced and learned to love writing songs. Six of his tunes were recorded by Universal Records Australia artists Adam Brand, Kirsti Lee Akers, and Rob Black. “I love to move people with music, and country songs are the most sophisticated songs out there. The art of writing a great lyric that people can relate to, and then marrying that lyric to music that moves them absolutely fascinates me.”

As a performer, Rich has traveled coast to coast in the United States. Highlights include opening up for LeAnn Womack, They Might Be Giants, an appearance on Garrison Keilor’s A Prairie Home Companion, appearing on the first four episodes in 2008 on CMT’s first season of “Can You Duet,” performing as ASCAP featured Artist in Austin Texas at South By Southwest in 2006, and playing in San Diego for the 2004 NARM convention as a winner of a collegiate talent search. “I’ve played so many gigs. Everywhere from the Florida Keys all the way up to the Casinos in Uncasville, Connecticut as a house band at Margaritaville.”

Rich lives in Nashville and is currently writing songs with some of Nashville’s up and coming artists and writers in pursuit of his dream of bringing his songs to the masses.
