"Music is a commitment. Whether it's easy or difficult, happy or sad... Whether you want to or not, you play. You play on because you have to. Not because anyone's making you, but because you know deep down that you never really had the choice to stop. Call it a drug or a lifestyle or whatever, music is unavoidable. In the best and worst ways, music is always waiting."
Whether you define the start of a musical career as the moment they started writing, playing an instrument, or truly identifying themself as an artist doesn't entirely matter, because it's not where we've been but where we intend to go that truly shapes both musicians and their music.
Jack Nations was born in 1993. He started playing guitar in 2004 and writing songs shortly there after. Jack joined a band called Four Living Creatures (with Mike Dienstbach of Sandy Pilgrims) and later turned it into Jack & Mike around 2008-09. After Jack and Mike parted ways, Jack played with No Flash Photography from 2010-2011. Finally after playing with a few bands and a handful of musicians, Jack began to focus on songwriting and becoming an artist in his own right.
Jack's first release, "This City", was incredibly well received by his fans and earned him the oppertunity to play with local St. Louis acts such as Various Hands, Bluefish, Pawns or Kings, LOGOS, and more. Jack continued to write, record, and play shows either with a band supporting him or by himself in acoustic sets. Jack released "Home", a digital EP featuring 4 new songs (including "Touch the Ground" featuring Amy Lickenbrock of Faux Pas) in early 2012. He later compiled "This City" in with the 4 tracks from "Home" into a demo CD entitled "I Know Jack".
The growth of Jack's music earned him an opening spot in a rooftop show in Nashville, TN for 250+ people as he opened for Every Boy (NYC) and the Soulard Blues Band (STL) in October of 2012.
Since then, Jack has been working hard to record his next EP/LP with local St. Louis producer, Rich Harris. As Jack writes and records, he is also booking shows to show his fans some new music!
