Steady States began as a casual jamming project between Mark Lewis and Kyle Anthony (formerly of Mother Culture). After a while, some song ideas developed and they decided to form an actual band. After some false starts with different drummers, they settled on Bob Comire (formerly of Albany NY’s Last Call) whose solid, powerful, hardcore punk-informed drumming perfectly complemented Kyle’s melodic bass lines and Mark’s angular, dissonant guitar riffs. The lineup was solidified in February 2011 with the addition of former Ste. Simone guitarist Joel Shields on vocals and guitar. Joel’s unhinged and oddball vocal sensibilities turned out to be well-suited for the band’s strangely natural-sounding mix of hardcore, noise and post-punk skronk.
After several months of writing and rehearsal, Steady States released their eponymous EP in December 2011, recorded, mixed and mastered by Justin Hayes.
The band has spent late 2011 and early 2012 honing their live act in venues of all types in the Kansas CIty area. They are currently working on new material and making plans to take their aural assault on the road.
