J. Shields has devoted over 2 decades to the world of songwriting. From his early years spent playing in bands in the Atlanta music scene to working and writing with aspiring songwriters and artists, J. has remained focused on strengthening the craftsmanship and integrity of his songs. Performing at the world famous Eddie's Attic to Smith's Old Bar, he's honed his skills as a musician and artist.
His music has evolved over the years, from an angst-filled youth of punk-rock and heavy metal to the more cerebral realm of instrospection found in folk-americana music.
J. and his wife moved to Nashville, TN in 2011. His newest single, “Magnolia Rain” is a duet with Nashville based singer-songwriter Hannah Aldridge. Co-written with Jason Kelly Richards, the song delves into the anguish of a love relationship gone wrong.
J. continues to gain respect among fans and peers alike as a unique voice and gifted song craftsman in the crowded Nashville talent pool. In a remarkably short amount of time he has developed strong working relationships with some of Nashville's top writers and music publishers.
