Michael Sharp was raised in Murfreesboro, TN where he grew up playing by ear in his father’s Southern Baptist Church. He played French horn in high school, and studied classical piano under Windell Little his senior year. He also took beginning theory that year, allowing him to be accepted at Middle Tennessee State University with a piano scholarship. While attending MTSU for three and a half years he studied Classical, Jazz, Latin, and Commercial piano, as well as accompanying, theory, ect. During his studies he also performed with multiple artists and groups, while accompanying in the vocal department of Deena Cankrin, Vocal Professor at Middle Tennessee State. He taught piano lessons for five years between two local music stores, and played professionally for 8 years at an African American United Methodist Church. He Has recorded with, The Last Straw, Nick Carver Band, Mike Anderson/(Anderson east), Terry Lee Palmer, The Corbitt Brothers, Smokin Mother Nature, Brinn Black, and many others, as well as opening up for Charlie Daniels, Sugarland, Darrel Worly(Little Tenn. River Run w/Montgomery Gentry), Phil Vasner, Cowboy Mouth, The Last Straw, MoonTaxi, Skyhi, Space Capone, GED Soul Allstars, ect. He can read music, chord charts, or Nashville numbers, and also write in all three.
